Retreats

The Loyola School retreat program provides the opportunity for students to step back from the “busy-ness” of their lives and reflect with gratitude on God’s presence in their daily experiences and in the world around them.

The retreats are designed to encourage students to recognize God present in all things, to develop new ways of praying, and to grow in their relationships – with God, with one another, and with their families.

Juniors and seniors, working in close collaboration with the Director of Campus Ministry and a team of faculty members, plan and facilitate all of the student retreats. The required retreat program begins with a day-long retreat for the freshmen, and builds incrementally each year, culminating in the four-day Kairos retreat for seniors. Each time the Loyola School community gathers for a morning assembly, members of the Student Government lead the student body in the prayer above – St. Ignatius’s Prayer for Generosity. Once each week, the entire community stops all other activity for seven minutes in order to pray the Examen, a form of Ignatian prayer which provides the opportunity to recognize and reflect on God’s presence in daily experience and notice patterns of behavior in response to that presence.
